Los Feliz

Historic architecture embedded in a creative atmosphere.

Welcome to Los Feliz

Los Feliz is a health-conscious neighborhood enlivened by the creative residents who live here. The community has a relaxed atmosphere, making the word Feliz, or happy, entirely appropriate. In the early 1920s, the town was a haven for actors and industry executives wanting to escape Hollywood. It soon became a location for silent movie production and, later, more modern movies. Walt Disney created numerous iconic characters in his uncle’s Los Feliz home, including Mickey.

Los Feliz is rich in history and architecture. When it comes to the Los Feliz real estate landscape, many homes were built in or before the 1920s. Famous architects, such as Frank Lloyd Wright, helped to create buildings and houses with style and aesthetic appeal. Walking through Los Feliz, one can see homes in art-deco, mid-century modern, and Spanish styles, among others. The neighborhood exudes charm and history at every turn.

Los Feliz was initially known as Rancho Los Feliz. Spain granted Jose Vicente Feliz land in 1741 by Spain. A large portion of that land was later owned by Colonel J. Griffith, who eventually contributed it to Los Angeles. It was these 3,015 acres that became Griffith Park, one of the best urban parks in the country.
